Well, it seems that someone has driven a truck into a Berlin Christmas market this evening. The German police describe it as a, “severe incident.”
And given the lack of information we have about the driver of the truck (as of 9 PM CET), the German authorities surely would like us to presume the most benign of reasons behind this “incident.”
Perhaps the driver was a Hindu woman who just happened to veer off course due to being distracted while eating her currywurst. (Don’t currywurst and drive, people!).
Or perhaps it was a Christian man whose excitement at the prospect of buying Christmas presents for his family just led to a tragic misunderstanding of his Google Maps directions.
Or perhaps it was a Musli- oh wait, sorry, no, that would be racist.
Obviously, we must wait until the full details of this incident have emerged to really reach concrete conclusions.
I will gladly issue a mea culpa if my suspicions turn out to be false, but the very fact that we all suspect the same thing, whether we admit it or not, should be telling enough.
Where there is smoke, there is probably fire. And where there are trucks running over people, there is probably Jihad. Such is the world in 2016.
